So, as many of you already know, this is a remake of an older piece. I drew this one back in December/January of 2006, and it's actually colored with pastel pencils, not colored pencils. (Notice how different they are in vibrance and smoothness?)
So, I like it. I tried some different coloring approaches that I've been meaning to do, but get bored with. I didn't use one color to blend anything (except the colored sky around the sun), because for most of it, I wanted really different tones. Trying for a more life-like approach, I guess. There's lots that could be improved with this piece, but I like it and it's done cause I can't really change anything anyways. And dorky me, I forgot to include the glow around the phoenix. Yeah, I was mad at myself for that one. No reference used for anything, but many thanks to *pallanoph, *lantairvlea, and =scenceable, and everybody else who offered tips, suggestions, photo links and ideas on my sketch! You guys seriously saved this piece from being scrapped and I'm very grateful now. I love how you've redone this, and the light on the horse looks wonderful. I love the softness of the colors and how you've mastered the light around the sun. The sky is beautifully smooth as well--the colors blending wonderfully. How do you do that? I'm never satisfied with mine

"And Allah took a handful of southerly wind, blew His breath over it, and created the horse.... Thou shall fly without wings, and conquer without any sword."
The blending of the colours is very smooth and atmospheric: the horse and the phoenix seem to be in suspended moption, like a still from a film. The balance of warm and cool colours is great, with the cool blue sky helping to balance out all the warm greens, browns, yellows and oranges.
